Old Town Manassas Gingerbread Contest Results Are In!
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
Strolling the streets of Old Town Manassas this holiday season, you’ve probably seen them in the shop windows. Ice cream cone rooftops and peppermint footpaths trimmed the creations of local gingerbread “artists” competing in the 14th Annual Gingerbread Contest, sponsored by Baker-Post Funeral Home. This year, sixteen decorated structures of all sizes and shapes added to the holiday decorations that adorned various Old Town merchant windows. The public has had the opportunity to vote on their favorite Gingerbread House either in the shops or on-line since December 1.
The votes have been counted and the results for the two categories – adult and children, are in. Debbie Haight, the Old Town Visitor’s Center manager, had the pleasure of notifying the winners. First place in the individual child category went to brothers Curtis and Aaron Forman of Manassas. The youth group from St. Thomas United Methodist Church took second place, and Tyler Tonneson was the third place winner.
Osbourn High School students Brook Mvonio and Haley Nowak worked together to capture first place in the adult categories with their towering ice cream cone castle. Samantha Meyer and Jennifer Smith took second and third place respectively. Prizes for the contest were $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place in Old Town Gift Cards.
The contest was organized by Historic Manassas, Inc., a non-profit organization charged with the promotion and preservation of Old Town Manassas, as well as running the Old Town Visitor’s Center.
