WE'VE Got a Golden Ticket!

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Recently when Manassas attorney Greg Stambaugh and his wife Julie stopped in at Opera House Gifts and Gourmet in Old Town, they had no idea that they would walk out with a wonderful early Christmas present. On a whim, Greg and Julie purchased a Merry Old Town Chocolate Bar, and opened it in the shop to see if it was a winner. Much to their delight, the chocolate bar that Greg selected contained the Golden Ticket. “We were so excited, this is a wonderful Christmas surprise for our grandchildren!” exclaims Stambaugh. Turns out those grandchildren are 4 year old twins Madison and Kaylee Burg from Manassas and Fairfax Station. This lucky pair will be Santa’s guests on his float in the 64th Annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5. “I can’t believe this is happening!” says Kaylee, apparently shocked at the thought of riding with Santa in the parade.

Historic Manassas, Inc. is the non-profit organization that is organizing the Golden Ticket promotion. The Merry Old Town Chocolate Bars will continue to be sold in Old Town until they are gone. “These are great little gifts for anyone you know,” says Patty Tracy, HMI’s Executive Director. “The Golden Ticket may no longer be out there, but these make great stocking stuffers while supporting your Main Street!”

Kaylee and Madison will get to meet Santa at the Old Town tree lighting ceremonies on Friday, December 4 when they will be introduced as the Golden Ticket winners. Santa arrives on the VRE at 6:15pm that evening, lights the tree with Vice Mayor Andy Harrover, then listens to children’s Christmas wishes at the Gazebo near the Harris Pavilion. Local choirs and musical performers, hot chocolate, free hayrides around Old Town and ice skating have made this magical evening in Old Town a traditional family outing for years.
